Seybold’s Take - 700 MHz's Public Safety License By Andrew Seybold WirelessWeek - December 01, 2007 Watching how the D block shapes up will clear up some, but not all of first responders’ concerns.

There are three dates that are important to those of us watching the activities surrounding the 700 MHz auction:

  1. Dec. 3, 2007, is the last day to file intentions to bid on the spectrum with the FCC;
  2. The day the bids close, because then we will know who all of the winners are;
  3. A day about six months after the auctions when we have a clear understanding of which companies will build what in this spectrum.

Of course, there are two hotly contested portions of the 700 MHz spectrum. Everyone has their theories. The first is the C block, which is 22 MHz of spectrum (11 x 11) and for which there are only 12 licenses. The second is the single license for the D block, which offers 10 MHz (2 x 5) of spectrum that will be shared with first responders…
