Wireless project at key juncture

State must decide whether to go forward with $2.1 billion network

ALBANY -- As the Paterson administration prepares to make a decision on whether to go through with the biggest procurement in state history -- a $2.1 billion project for a statewide wireless network -- top officials on Wednesday seemed ready to part with the plan for the communication system.

Gov. David Paterson, using the characterization of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, said the project isn't doing well. "It's not dead, but it's in critical condition," he said...
