First Commercial LTE Gear Ships To Customers

The first Long Term Evolution (LTE)-capable hardware began shipping this week, easily outpacing by a year the predictions of some in the industry.

 The first announced pieces of hardware actually out the door are a LTE-compatible base station from Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and a LTE user equipment (UE) protocol tester jointly developed by Agilent Technologies and the U.K.'s Anite plc. A base station, of course, is of little use without handsets and, without test gear, building those handsets also is nearly impossible. Initial shipments of both this week thus is a major milestone in LTE's history. ...
