Verizon Wireless Outlines 4.9 GHz, 700 MHz Plan Radio Resource (4/16) Verizon Wireless went public with a plan for a public-safety broadband network at 700 MHz. The Verizon Wireless plan includes using a 4.9 GHz incident area network to satisfy most broadband on-scene needs of up to 13 million public-safety users, with the carrier's 700 MHz EV-DO network providing backhaul from the 4.9 GHz network for off-scene data communications requirements. The 700 MHz public-safety demand would use three EV-DO Rev. A 2 X 1.25 megahertz each channels. In a letter to the FCC dated April 4, Verizon filed details of a public-safety broadband proposal it developed for the Southern Governors Association (SGA), which the carrier says could be expanded into a nationwide alternative. "Given the common issue raised in these two proceedings, Verizon Wireless would like its submissions to the SGA to be included in the commission's record for the ninth notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM)," the letter said...
