The Adams County (Colo.) Communications Center (Adcom 9-1-1), the county's nonprofit police and fire/EMS dispatch center, is in the request for proposals (RFP) process for an interoperable wireless public-safety Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, with two vendors still in the running. A vendor will be selected by May 2, said Brian Shepherd, deputy director for Adcom 9-1-1. The county gained a $12.1 million Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) grant to fund the network that will cover Adams County as well as Denver International Airport (DIA).  ...
...The network will enable applications such as hazardous materials database query and records access, criminal checks, airport perimeter security and emergency runway clearance. The county is a recipient of a waiver from the FCC to build a 700 MHz public-safety broadband network. “There are specific parameters that our network will have to follow, and it’s important to us that a vendor can provide that for us,” Shepherd said. ...
